History

In the late 70s, a powerful and compelling movement began, and, as a result, the Iglesia Cristiana de Hatillo (Christian Church of Hatillo) was born. It was founded by Pastor Alex Alvarado and a group of leaders. This group was made up of mostly charismatic Catholics who were seeking more of God. They grew in number and formed a church called Iglesia Misionera Shalom (Shalom Missionary Church).

in the early 80s, after much effort, they were able to buy a small property in Hatillo to build the first church building. Later, they changed their name to Comunidad Cristiana Shalom (Shalom Christian Community).

After the revival between 1996 and 1998, the hunger for God was such that the meetings at homes (cell groups) and discipleship groups grew explosively. In 2000, the church changed its name to Ciudad de Dios (City of God).

Ciudad de Dios is a charismatic church full of cheerful worship and powerful praise. It is also focused on discipleship training to help people grow spiritually. Through small groups and the discipleship program “Healing of the Nations,” believers grow until they become followers of Jesus, ready to serve in the kingdom of God.

Ciudad de Dios has been part of the Brethren in Christ denomination since 2008. It is a privilege for us to be a part of the Brethren in Christ family.
